September 2009 Monthly Meeting
John Lomax: Watercolor Painting Demo Open to the Public
September's presentation was a watercolor demonstration by Charlotte artist John Lomax. Mr. Lomax grew up in Charlotte, NC and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. He worked in the ceramic tile industry as a commercial contractor and after selling his business he started painting watercolors and became active in several regional art associations. He has studied with many well known artists and teachers and is a signature member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.
Many of his paintings are scenes from his travels both here and abroad. He especially likes to paint boats, and landscapes, and has found that people's faces and everyday scenes provide interesting subjects. The strong contrast of values, light and shadow are evident in many of his paintings. Mr. Lomax also paints with acrylics and teaches watercolor classes and workshops. |
