June 2008 Monthly Meeting

Scott Boyle shared with us his tools and tips for successful plein air painting, illustrated with his own paintings and showing us his equipment.

Scott, an accomplished landscape artist residing in Gaston County, NC, “strives to capture the harmony and essence of the beauty in the world around us by representing familiar vistas in North Carolina and beyond.” Because Scott is also an airline pilot, he is able to divide his time between flying and painting, often using his layovers to study the outdoors in other locations across the country.

He has received numerous awards from his youth until today, having sold over sixty-five oil paintings by the time he was sixteen. He was recently selected as a 2008 Finalist in the Annual Landscape Contest Feb-Mar Issue 59 of International Artist Magazine, AZ. He has a long list of credits as an exhibitor in group, juried, and solo shows, both regionally and nationally.

Scott has a passion for plein air painting and believes that North Carolina is ripe for developing an active plein air tradition. He hopes to be able to encourage artists all over the state to get outdoors, observe, and paint. He has experienced first hand the rewards of such discipline.
