About Kevin Brown

Charlotte, North Carolina artist Kevin E. Brown paints serene landscapes with oils, pastels and acrylics. His profound love of nature, rural America and our national parks is depicted in images that may look like photographs from a distance but on closer inspection reveal themselves to be painterly brushstrokes or intriguing shapes of color. Brown teaches adult painting classes and workshops in Charlotte. He is currently represented by Crossnore Fine Arts Gallery in Crossnore, NC.

Many of Brown's paintings are composed from photos he has taken on his journeys throughout the United States. Much of his work is inspired by the Southwest where he lived for some 30 years and North Carolina, his current home. Brown and his family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in August of 2002. In his new home, Brown feels like he has finally returned to his East Coast roots.

Kevin spent his youthful years in mid-state New York where he developed a profound appreciation for the wonders of nature, the changing of the seasons, and life in small town rural America. He moved from those green summers and snowy winters to the desert climate of Phoenix, Arizona in 1970. In 1978, he graduated Cum Laude from Arizona State University.

Brown was always blessed with creative energy. He recalls grade school teachers being particularly impressed with his color choices in painting. Although he took good notes in class, his margins were always filled with doodles. Along with drawing and painting, he played the guitar and wrote music, lyrics, poems and short essays. But, those activities were always hobbies for Brown, and his serious work became a career in computer software development.

By the turn of the millennium however, Brown decided to concentrate more effort on his artistic creativity. At that time he began to study ambitiously with local Arizona artists as well as cultivating his talent through extensive self-study. Finally, Brown began to combine his creative passion with his love of nature by specializing in landscapes painted with pastels, acrylics and oils.

In February 2007 Brown began working as a framer for Cheap Joe's Art Stuff at their new retail store in Charlotte, NC. If you visit the store you will see a number of Brown's paintings on display there. It is located at 4420 E. Monroe Road.

Kevin E. Brown has participated in many local art groups including the the Piedmont Pastel Society, Mint Hill Arts, the Guild of Charlotte Artists, the Charlotte Artists Society, Artists of Matthews, the Arizona Pastel Artists Association and the Peoria Fine Arts Association. Brown participates in numerous shows and continues to win awards for his work. He teaches adult painting classes and workshops in Charlotte.
